Brian HousmanBrian Housman, like so many others, moved to Boston for college. He came here from Chicago to attend Harvard College, from which he graduated with a B.A. in Government in 1992. When he started college, he wanted to be a diplomat. By the time he graduated, he wanted to spend as much time as possible studying and teaching the Bible. He joined the staff of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, a group which helps students learn about what it means to follow Jesus. He worked with InterVarsity at Harvard and then at Yale.

When Brian returned to Boston in 1998 as Area Director for InterVarsity, he was excited by the prospect of attending the Greater Boston Vineyard, which he'd heard about through several close friends. The first Sunday he attended, Brian helped move chairs, and he's been doing so pretty much ever since. He also led small groups, taught Bible studies, and helped in areas of leadership training and development. He joined the staff of the Greater Boston Vineyard in August 2002 to serve as the executive pastor. He supervises the staff team, as well as providing Bible resources, preaching on occasion, teaching several of our classes, and a variety of other things.

Brian loves to grill meat, reads voraciously, and takes a special pleasure from watching old TV shows on Netflix. He's an avid sports fan. Several years back he made the monumental decision to change allegiances from the Chicago Bears and White Sox to the Patriots and the Red Sox—the timing turned out to be pretty good. He's recently taken up cycling. You're sure to hear him talk about that more if you ever hear one of his sermons, or just talk to him in the lobby.

Alexis Kruza

Alexis grew up in southeastern Massachusetts and studied music and education in college before moving to Paris, France. Life in Paris was, as they say, fantastique. In France, Alexis' appreciation for the arts, French language, and really good food grew deeper.

Alexis is almost always up for an adventure and loves traveling to places like New Zealand, Haiti, Turkey, or anywhere in Europe. Adventures near home include teaching anything from 4th grade poetry to middle school orchestra!

Alexis discovered faith through a series of big, life-changing adventures which led her to the Vineyard's SEEK course. She joined the Vineyard staff full time in August 2010 as the Director of Children's Ministries. Her favorite parts of her job are getting to talk about faith with kids on Sunday mornings, cooking together in small group on weekday afternoons, developing creative curriculum that's applicable to real life, and seeing God at work in the kids' lives. When Alexis is not immersed in any of the above, she might be kayaking, cooking, reading, swing dancing, traveling, exploring an art museum, or spending time with friends.

Kim MessengerKim grew up in suburban Philadelphia. In high school, a friend invited her to a youth ministry called FOCUS, which stands for the Fellowship Of Christians in Universities and Schools. While Kim had always felt close to God, attending FOCUS camps and small groups showed her what following Jesus could be like in the real world. Gradually migrating north, she received a B.A. in English from Middlebury College and later an M.A. from Middlebury’s Bread Loaf School of English. She also explored the intersection of religion and literature during a year at Yale Divinity School. Her continued involvement with FOCUS, first as a student, then as a volunteer and later as a staff member, initiated her work with kids and eventually brought her to the Boston area in 1987.

At various times, she has taught middle school English and helped run a couple of church youth programs. When she and her family moved to Belmont, she told weekly Bible stories at her daughters’ preschool. That experience renewed her awe and wonder at how deeply young children relate to God.

Kim loves to read, think, journal, and paint which some days translates into a lot of time on the sofa drinking a lot of smoky black tea. She loves to cook dinner every night for her family because cooking is part therapy and part creative stand-in for the writing and painting she wishes she could do more.

Kim and her husband Will have two girls, Sarah 16 and Hannah 14, who both enjoy the youth group here at the Vineyard and are expert babysitters by the way, in case you live near them.

Evadne Cokeh

Assistant Pastor
Director of Youth Ministries

Evadne Cokeh

Evadne grew up in Granada Hills, California, a suburb of Los Angeles. While Evadne loves her name, it has proven to be complicated and frequently mispronounced. Properly pronounced it should be said without the "d" and can be sounded out as follows: eh-va-knee. If you still have trouble, feel free to ask her in person.

By God's miraculous leading and financial provision, Evadne ended up moving across to country to attend Wellesley College where she graduated with a BA in Economics. Her time in college propelled new found loves for Jesus, her Chinese heritage, economic development, social justice, guitar, photography, travel, and exploration.

Upon graduation in 2007, she landed her first job at Forrester Research, a technology and market research company as a Research Associate. But after only 9 months of working there, God had other plans and lead her to Vineyard's Community Offerings as an AmeriCorps worker in the summer of 2008. After year of AmeriCorps, Evadne continued working with Community Offerings with its youth programs: REACH and Project MOVE.  In August 2010, Evadne moved from working full time under the Community Offerings Department to working part-time and then coming on part-time as the Vineyard's new Youth Pastor, which has been a fun combination of her many passions.

Evadne loves the Los Angeles Lakers, smoothies, being a foodie, wandering aimlessly, buying clothes on sale, hiking and enjoying nature, laughing, learning, pondering life, listening to live music, drinking a good latte, executing her crazy ideas, playing the guitar, viewing life through the lens of a camera, and spending time with the people she loves.
