Brian Housman, like so many others, moved to Boston for college. He came here from Chicago to attend Harvard College, from which he graduated with a B.A. in Government in 1992. When he started college, he wanted to be a diplomat. By the time he graduated, he wanted to spend as much time as possible studying and teaching the Bible. He joined the staff of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, a group which helps students learn about what it means to follow Jesus. He worked with InterVarsity at Harvard and then at Yale.
When Brian returned to Boston in 1998 as Area Director for InterVarsity, he was excited by the prospect of attending the Greater Boston Vineyard, which he'd heard about through several close friends. The first Sunday he attended, Brian helped move chairs, and he's been doing so pretty much ever since. He also led small groups, taught Bible studies, and helped in areas of leadership training and development. He joined the staff of the Greater Boston Vineyard in August 2002 to serve as the executive pastor. He supervises the staff team, as well as providing Bible resources, preaching on occasion, teaching several of our classes, and a variety of other things.
Brian loves to grill meat, reads voraciously, and takes a special pleasure from watching old TV shows on Netflix. He's an avid sports fan. Several years back he made the monumental decision to change allegiances from the Chicago Bears and White Sox to the Patriots and the Red Sox—the timing turned out to be pretty good. He's recently taken up cycling. You're sure to hear him talk about that more if you ever hear one of his sermons, or just talk to him in the lobby.
