Cambridge Police honor Greater Boston Vineyard for their work in the community
On Thursday May 27, 2010 the Cambridge Police Department recognized the work and positive impact of Vineyard Community Offerings – an initiative of the Greater Boston Vineyard church – in the community. At the 8th Annual Cambridge Police Department Awards Ceremony at MIT's Kresge Auditorium, Deputy Superintendent Lester J. Sullivan presented the Greater Boston Vineyard with the Larry Burke Community Policing Award.
The Police Department noted the mission of Vineyard Community Offerings to "create hope, healing and unity in Cambridge and Greater Boston communities by providing programming that impacts youth and adults," and recognized that the through the Vineyard Community Offerings initiative, Greater Boston Vineyard "church members have made significant contributions to the North Cambridge Community, which have had far reaching effects."
The Larry Burke Community Policing Award was given to commend the Greater Boston Vineyard for making "a conscious and diligent effort to become an important and active community resource in not only the North Cambridge neighborhood, but in every neighborhood they touch." Signed by city commissioner Robert C. Haas, the award noted that "their members may not realize it, but they are not only providing a valuable service to the area residents, they are serving as exemplary role models who affect the lives of children and adults alike".
