Snow Cancellation Notification Methods
If you're hearing about snow in the forecast, in addition to checking the Announce email list, you can check this website's home page for cancellation info. If you aren't able to get to your e-mail or the web from wherever you are, you can call our church offices at 617-252-0005 and will hear whether services are cancelled. If you don't hear/see anything, you can assume that everything is on a normal schedule, just like you would with school cancellations.
We will make a decision as early as possible based on the best information we get from the meteorologists. For Sundays services, we'll do our best to communicate any cancellation by mid-day Saturday. Weekday evening events will be cancelled by early afternoon, if necessary. Primary reasons for cancellations are 1) potential for hazardous travel conditions, 2) parking limitations, or 3) plowing needs on our campus.
Please note that if there is some uncertainty as to any given storm's impact, we will do our best to keep you informed of our decision process. In certain cases of uncertainty, rather than cancelling the services altogether we may elect to go with a "Winter Storm" service, where there would be no expectation that Sunday Teams would be available. No Baby, Kids, or Teen church on those Winter Storm services. Rather, a we'd have a simple devotional service. Regardless, please use your best judgment as to whether it is safe to travel.
Also, as in past years, you will be able to get the cancellation information from the major local news stations: WBZ, WHDH, WFXT, and WCVB television stations as well as their websites. Additionally, you can hear cancellation information on WBZ 1030 and WRKO 680 on the radio. Do note that because of the networks various systems, the times that they show next-day cancellations vary, but are typically transmitted after 5pm. Also, our church is alternately known as "Cambridge Vineyard", "Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Cambridge", "Cambridge Vineyard Church". They haven't yet updated our name to "Greater Boston Vineyard" or the like.
If you are a Small Group Leader or Sunday Team leader, please communicate to your folks if you find out about a cancellation to help minimize the number of cold people standing outside the church's locked doors. Thanks!
Also, please note that even if we hold a services after a significant storm, please be mindful that parking will be severely limited – please use public transportation if possible.
Here's to hoping we all stay warm and relatively dry this winter!
