Artist’s Statement
KD Mernin
Printmaking/Monotypes
Have you ever had a song get stuck in your head for days? Or mulled over a thought or event over and over again? Or maybe you’ve tried to imagine what someone was thinking in an ad or an old photograph?
Well I do that a lot. The works shown here bring my mental conversations to light. Each of the images is a part of a much larger body of work created over the last several years in my studio, Carriage House Press, here in Cambridge. Using the technique of monoprinting as a starting point, I manipulate my images with collage, words and textures to tell a story about the thoughts and feelings that run on in my mind – anger, joy, silliness, disappointment, wonder and the like. I wonder how these universal feelings run on in your mind. I hope you enjoy whatever reflections or smiles they engender in you.
