Artist’s Statement
Pascha Griffiths
These quilts are a sampling of the (hopefully!) 100 quilts being made for our local neighbors displaced by violence or poverty, or those struggling with homelessness. Some quilts were made by one person, most were conglomerations of several people’s work.
“Beloved” is the message because it seems to be one of the clearest and most consistent messages from God to us throughout the Bible, and one of the clearest messages I’ve received from God about myself and others since making the choice to actually try to follow Jesus.
Many hands have loved as yet unknown recipients through these warm love letters. We invite you to extend your hands with us, through your prayers and your partnership.
The inspiration for this project came from a defeated yet hopeful moment. I was asking God what to do with my life in the face of the shockingly huge limitations being a mother of young children has placed on my aspirations. God’s humorous and childlike message to me was: make big quilts for Jesus.
The cool thing is, Jesus said as much in one of his stories: "Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'
So, these quilts are for those who really need a blanket and for those who really need to be reminded that they are indeed “Beloved”.
